A00013C Pittenweem harbour - East and north coastlines
Pittenweem is located on the northern shores of the Firth of Forth on the east coast of Scotland. From early times it was a fishing settlement that grew into a prosperous trading port, much like the other coastal settlements along the East Neuk of Fife. Using the natural flow of the rock formations Pittenweem harbour was developed in the late 1700's so it could take large boats. Local coal mines used the harbour to ship coal up the Forth and was port to a large fishing fleet. Large scale fishing has since gone and only a hand full of boats operate in nearby waters landing their catch at the local market. Fishermen leave with fish every working day in vans to sell on the streets in many Scottish counties. With the arrival of the steam train came tourism which has continued to this day and brings in not only locals but also the foreign traveler too.
