A00105C Cromarty Firth from the Black Isle

This is a view of the northeast corner of the "Black Isle" on the east coast of Scotland. Despite its name it is actually a peninsula and not an island. The Black Isle has a fertile landscape suitable for all types of farming. In the centre of the picture lies the Cromarty Firth which is designated as a Special Protection Area for wildlife. The sea inlet in the top right of the picture gives passage to and from the North Sea and is where frequent sea life visitors can be spotted such as dolphins, porpoises, seals, whales and basking sharks. Viewed looking northeast to Cromarty Bay and Nigg Bay.
