A00151B Sound of Sleat from Camascross on Skye - West and south coastlines
The Sound of Sleat is a sea channel of about 20 miles long on the west coast of Scotland. It lies between the Scottish mainland (top) and the Island of Skye (bottom). The Skye settlements of Camascross and Isleornsay lie on its eastern coastline on the Sleat peninsula (bottom). The "Isle Ornsay" is situated adjacent to both settlements in the middle left of the picture and Isleornsay was once the ferry terminus for Sleat to the mainland. In the days of the dreadful Highland Clearances this was also the departure point for many inhabitants. This view looks west over Sleat known as "the garden of Skye" to Loch Hourn on the mainland (top right).
