A00100CX2 Strathy Point to Whiten Head

Strathy point is a peninsula located along the far north coastline of mainland Scotland. It is about 20 miles west of the nearest major settlement of Thurso. The coastline is of a very rugged nature with outcrop rocky formations, sea cliffs, sea stacks and arches. Access to Strathy Points lighthouse is via an easy coastal footpath from the end of a single track road originating at Strathy village. The lighthouse was deemed necessary for the area and came into operation in 1958 but with the advances in navigation it was retired in 2012. The area is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Viewed looking west to Tongue Bay in the top right of the picture.
