A00156B Loch Duich

A sea Loch located east of Loch Alsh and east of Skye on the west coast of Scotland. On Loch Duich stands one of the most photographed and filmed castles in Scotland, Castle Eilean Donan. It sits on a small tidal rock (middle left) that may have been the site originally of a monastic cell to St Donnan of Eigg. Later a castle was constructed and was a stronghold to the Clan Mackenzie. The castle was destroyed during the Jacobite rebellions by cannon from government ships. In the top of the frame sits the mountains named "The Five Sisters of Kintail". The highest "Sgur Fhuaran" reaches a height of around 3500ft. Viewed looking southeast down Loch Duich.
