A00355AX2 Beinn nan Stac spur off Askival Hill Rum Island

Location, the southern end of the "Island of Rum" off the west coast of Scotland. The island of Rum belongs to a group called "The Small Isles" in the Inner Hebrides. These islands are situated south of Skye. Rum is the largest of the Small Islands and has a mountainous rugged look which comprises of basalt and gabbro rock and is in fact the remnants of an active volcano system. The island was inhabited in prehistory as fragments of the past have indicated. Since then St Beccan, the Norse in 833 AD, Scots under Alexander III and various clans thereafter resided or had ownership. In 1826/7 the whole island was deliberately depopulated in a shameful way during the "clearances" for, sheep. Viewed looking along the southwest coastline of Rum.
