Crail is a picturesque little village situated on the northern banks of the Firth of Forth on the east coast of Scotland. The village lies in the southeast corner of Fife, an area commonly referred to as the "East Neuk of Fife". It has a long history dating back to early settlements and later inhabited by the predecessors of the Scots, the "Picts". By the 12th century it was a thriving village and it became a Royal Burgh sanctioned by King William the Lion. Granted by King Robert the Bruce, it became a busy weekend market place much to the displeasure of the church. The pretty harbour was built by the end of the 16th century and underwent modifications at later dates. The village today is hot on the tourism trail and receives plenty visitors internationally as well as locals.
