A00672B Castlesea Bay to Auchmithie Village

Location, 3 miles north of the ancient Town of Arbroath on the east coast of Scotland. Castlesea beach, at the bottom of the picture, is a mixture of coarse sand and pebbles flanked by 150 foot sandstone sea cliffs that run north passing the village of Auchmithie in the middle left of the picture. Many naturally formed arches and sea caves have been carved out of the soft red sandstone coastline. These coastal caves are said to have been used by smugglers in days gone by. The beautiful rock formations of the coastline can be seen from the local coastal path which hugs the coast between Auchmithie to Arbroath in the south.
