A00679D Tentsmuir Sands

aerial pictures of Scotland east coast coastline at Tentsmuir
Location, the far north easterly point of Fife at Tentsmuir Sands on the east coast of Scotland. This area is an important conservation site for wading birds and is a National Nature Reserve. The falling tide reveals many offshore sand banks and mudflats and with that starts a cycle which supports sea birds feeding in the mini channels of sea water. Seals also regularly use exposed sand banks to rest and bask in the sun. Tentsmuir beach can be accessed through Tentsmuir forest which originally was a moorland with coastal sand dunes until the Forestry Commission undertook a tree plantation program in the 1920's. This view looks north from above the sands to Tentsmuir Point and the Tay estuary in the top of the picture.
