A00709I Lunan Bay south sands

Lunan Bay lies south of Montrose by about 4 miles on the east coast of Scotland. Photographed on a summers afternoon this picture of Lunan Bay was taken from the south and captures the expanse of the 2 mile beach up to the northern sea cliffs at Boddin Point, top right of the frame. The long sandy beach starts in the south at Ethie Haven and is flanked by sand dunes to the west and ends at the northern cliffs where there are natural caves and huge rounded boulder fragments. The fresh water of Lunan Water is fairly wide at the beach and enters the North Sea near the top of the picture. The beach is a popular location attracting surfers, fishermen, picnickers and wildlife watchers.
