A00327B Crinan Canal

The Crinan Canal connects the Firth of Clyde to the Inner Hebrides, cutting off the requirement to take the long route around the Kintyre Peninsula. The canal runs 9 miles from Loch Gilp (Fyne) which gives access to the Firth of Clyde, then cuts across mid Argyll south of Inverary to Loch Crinan on the west coastline. The short cut was opened in 1801. Viewed looking southeast from above the mouth of the River Add.
