A00613A Gigha Island

aerial pictures of Scotland west coast Islands of Gigha
Location, south of Gigha and the small Island of Cara (bottom right) off the west coast of Scotland. The Island of Gigha lies off the Kintyre peninsula and in the same orientation southwest to northeast. Artifacts point to the island as been inhabited since prehistoric times. It is highly probable Gigha was in the path of early Irish migrations of farmers and fisherman. The island came under Norse control being in close proximity to the Norse strongholds of Islay several miles west of Gigha. The island is the ancestral home of the Clan MacNeill. In modern times the island has had economy issues something which is an ongoing challenge to resolve. Gigha can have long sunny days and maintains a mild climate. Viewed looking north from above Cara Island.
