A00602D Todd Head Point lighthouse

Location, Todd Head lighthouse on the east coast of Scotland. The lighthouse was constructed as a way point near the edge of this rocky coastline. Todhead Point, where the lighthouse stands, is 6 miles south of Stonehaven and one mile south of the picturesque coastal village of Catterline. The lighthouse came into operation in 1897 with its light fueled by paraffin vapour then in 1973 it was electrified and finally the installation was retired from service in the year 2007. The pebbly and coarse sandy beach of Braidon Bay is in the middle left of the picture and can be accessed from the lighthouse, the short walk passes sandstone sea stacks. The adjacent lands are fertile and support an extensive farming presence over much of the area.
