A00291B Inverkeithing Inner Bay Fife - East and north coastlines
Inverkeithing Inner Bay is located along the northern bank of the Firth of Forth. The bay projects inland to the west from Inverkeithing Bay on the Forth, middle right in the picture. A small pre-medieval port was established on the north bank within the bay serving the ancient village of Inverkeithing. Coal was shipped from the Inner Bay and shipbuilding was active at one time but ship breaking is what Inverkeithing will be remembered for. Great ocean going Liners and famous WW1 and WW2 warships were bought and scrapped for their metal and inner valuables. Ships lay along the south bank of the Inner Bay while men cut away the ships metal hull till all that remained was a skeletal keel, the last trace of a vessel before it vanished completely. This view looks along the southern coastline of Fife to the settlement of Dalgety Bay, the sea channel of Mortimers Deep to the Town of Burntisland at the top of the picture.
Viewed looking east.
