A00588F The Lecks at Cambo sands

aerial pictures of Scotland east coast coastline at Kingsbarns along the east neuk
Location, 6 miles southeast of St Andrews on the east coast of Scotland. This aerial photograph shows Cambo Sands and the circular rock formation known as the Lecks in the center of the picture which is a product of volcanic activity. The rocky formations are of particular interest in fossil exploration as the exposed surface dates back to the carboniferous period. During very low tides tree fossils can be found. In the top right lies scattered pier stones from a harbour built in the 1800's that was used to ship out grain and potatoes and import coal and tiles. The area can be reached from nearby Kingsbarns village which is above the picture or a coastal path between Crail in the southeast or St Andrews in the northwest. Viewed looking west from above Cambo Brigs.
