A00721E Sound of Mull from Ardtornish Point

A00721E Sound of Mull from Ardtornish Point - West and south coastlines
The "Sound of Mull" is orientated northwest (top) to southeast (bottom). It allows passage from Loch Linnhe and the Firth of Lorn to several "Inner Hebrides" islands, the Western Islands, the Scottish west coastline and the Atlantic Ocean. The Sound is a major ferry route connecting the mainland at Oban to the islands, stopping at Mull, Coll, Tiree, Barra and South Uist. The Island of Mull is on the left of the picture and the Morvern peninsula on the right. Ardtornish Point (bottom) projects into the Sound of Mull and is the site of a castle once the principal seat for the "Lord of the Isles". It was here where the "Treaty of Ardornish-Westminster" was negotiated (1462), that, should Scotland be conquered by England the Lord of the Isles would gain significant additional lands.
Viewed looking northwest.
