A00100A Strathy Point to Birms Ness

Strathy Point lies about 20 miles west of the nearest major town of Thurso along the far northern coastline of mainland Scotland. The coastline is of a very rugged nature with outcrop rocky formations, sea cliffs, sea stacks and arches. Access to Strathy Points lighthouse is via an easy coastal footpath from the end of a single track road originating at Strathy village. The lighthouse was deemed necessary for the area and came into operation in 1958 but with the advances in navigation it was retired in 2012. The area is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
